National and Regional Networks
Montana is one of 23 states and Puerto Rico participating in the Institutional Development Award (IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence) Program, which seeks to increase the competitiveness of investigators by supporting faculty development and research infrastructure at institutions where the aggregate success rate for applications to NIH has historically been low. The NCRR Division of Research Infrastructure (DRI) supports the two components of the IDeA Program: the INBRE (IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence) and COBRE (Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence). The COBRE focuses on multidisciplinary research centers led by peer-reviewed, NIH-funded investigators with expertise central to the theme of each center.

Lariat
Created through support from the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), Lariat is the first phase of NCRRs IDeANet Program. Seven states in the Western Region participate in this network: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Through Lariat, these states will be able to increase their connectivity to regional, national, and international networks by means of newly constructed and enhanced cyberinfrastructure.
